At 0–4, Chris Jericho needs more than a new partner

THE HARD QUESTION

Chris Jericho has four WWE CJ match appearances and no wins. That is a harsh place to begin a column about a major name, but ignoring it would be kinder than honest.

John Cena beat him in their Undisputed Championship match at Elimination Chamber. Sami Zayn beat him in St. Louis. Before that, LA Knight won their Athens meeting, and Jericho’s Royal Rumble run ended with Roman Reigns eliminating him. The losses span different situations. There is no single bad night to blame.

Now AJ Styles has entered the picture as Jericho’s new partner. It is a sensible change of emphasis: a tag team can create a different rhythm and give both men a fresh target. But Styles should not become camouflage for Jericho’s results. If the partnership works, Jericho needs to contribute to the wins rather than simply stand beside them.

Rey Mysterio’s offer of help adds another possible connection. Danhausen attacking Rey afterwards could drag the story somewhere less comfortable. That is intrigue, not evidence that Jericho has engineered anything behind the scenes.

My concern is simple. A new association makes an interesting segment. A win makes a reset believable. Jericho has the former; he still needs the latter.
